How To Find WordPress Page ID or Post ID?

Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
Click on “Pages” or “Posts” depending on the type of ID you need to find.
Locate the page or post that you need to find its ID.
Click on its “Edit” button.
Check its URL in your web browser’s address bar.
The ID is the number displayed within the URL after the “?post=” text.
Alternatively, you can install a plugin to reveal these IDs in a separate column.
You can also check the IDs directly from your cPanel using phpMyAdmin.

What Are WordPress Page IDs?

Did you know that absolutely every single piece of content on your WordPress site has a unique ID?

All of your pages and posts have unique number IDs called Page/Post IDs that are needed for your website to function. These IDs help all of your themes, plugins, and widgets identify and find specific parts of your site.

How To Find Your WordPress Page ID Without Any Plugin

Finding a Page/Post ID is actually much easier than you think. To start, you must log into your WordPress dashboard. Then you can either click on “Pages” or “Posts”, depending on what page or post you want the ID of. Then you want to hover over the title of the page or post of your choice. When you have hovered over the title of your desired post or page, you must click on “Edit” and then a new page that looks like this should display:

To grab the ID you just need to click on the URL and then find the part that says “post=”. The number that comes after the equal sign is the ID for that page and in this case, it’s 7941.Now that you have the ID you can use it for whatever suits your needs. Though maybe your widgets or plugins need Media, Category, and Tag IDs for targeting images, videos, categories, and tags.In the next section, I will explain what those IDs are and how exactly you can find them.

How To Find Media, Category, and Tag IDs in WordPress

Media like images and categories/tags also have unique IDs. Sometimes you might need these to use certain widgets and plugins. This can be helpful because you may want to use plugins and widgets to tweak certain pieces of media, such as images and videos. Furthermore, using categories and tags will allow you to target large groups of specific posts. This process may seem complicated at first but in reality, it’s as easy as finding IDs for pages and posts.For Media IDs, you must go to your WordPress dashboard and then click on the “Media” tab in your sidebar. Then click on the item of your choice and click “Edit”. Once you have clicked on “Edit”, a page that looks like this should appear

Now you must click on the URL and the ID will be the number after “post=” in the URL, which in this case is 7238.For Category and Tag IDs, you must start by clicking on “Posts” at your WordPress dashboard, and then you can click on either “Categories” or “Tags” under “Posts”. Afterward, hover over the title of the category or tag you prefer and then click on “Edit”. Then a page similar to this one should appear.

Now you must click on the URL and then the ID will be the number after the text “category&tag_ID=”, which in this case is 66.These methods can be used for quickly finding the ID for categories, tags, and all types of media. This can be incredibly useful for when you need IDs for widgets and plugins since with categories and tags you can interact with groups of content.With media IDs, you can edit and interact with images and videos. Though using a plugin to find IDs is even easier and can make finding IDs a cakewalk.

How To Find WordPress Page IDs in Bulk with a Plugin

Finding IDs with plugins can be countless times easier than searching for them manually. Simply install a plugin that shows IDs such as “Reveal ID“ or “Show ID“, then when you are done installing it, you can go to the page for pages, posts, categories, tags, or media; and there will be a column in the table that displays the ID for that item.

These plugins can be used to find IDs in bulk and can make configuring and editing your plugins/widgets much easier and more streamlined.

These plugins are also very minimal and fast, so they won’t bog or slow down your site when you use them. Though if you don’t like using plugins to find IDs, there is also another way to find IDs in bulk without using any extra plugins that is actually quite simple.

How To Find WordPress Page IDs From Your cPanel using phpMyAdmin

You can find IDs for posts and pages by using your hosting service’s cPanel or “Client Area”. Although this method is highly unconventional, it can still be of some use to you.In our example, we will be using HostArmada since they are our recommended hosting service. Once you have found the cPanel for your hosting service, you must go to the “Databases” section, where you will find a tool called “phpMyAdmin”. Once you click on it, a page similar to this one should pop-up.

Once you are on that page, you should go through the sidebar with all of the databases until you find the one for your WordPress site, these usually start with “_wp”. Then you have to find the section labeled “wp_posts”. If you click on that, then a table will show up that contains a column displaying each post’s ID and other useful bits of information such as comments and options. This can help if you do not want to use a plugin to find IDs.

How To Display WordPress Page ID or Post ID with PHP

Lastly, there is a way to display an item’s ID on the front-end of your website using PHP.This can be very useful for displaying certain information, making specific plugins work, and tweaking the coding of certain parts of your WordPress website.This is usually not needed, but if your needs are more complex and require some amount of coding, then this will surely be helpful.This can be done by simply using a function that WordPress already has built-in; the function is “the_ID()“. You must use it within a loop for it to function properly, and a working example of this would be this line.
